Announcing the 2010 W&M Orchestral Commission Competition
For the first time a William & Mary composition student will be given the chance to compose for the William & Mary Symphony Orchestra. The contest is open only to W&M students currently enrolled in composition classes and entries are due in the music office by 5:00pm on April 30th.
Of the competition, W&M Orchestra conductor, Akiko Fujimoto, says: "This is a fantastic opportunity for WMSO to collaborate with the Theory & Composition department. While there are many talented composition students here at W&M, learning to compose for a symphony orchestra is a whole new skill and an enormous task in itself that is hard to motivate without an actual chance to hear a live orchestra play it. We are so pleased to be able to become a part of that creative learning process to a qualified student and also include a brand new work written for us in our concert program."
The winning composer will premiere their piece with the W&M Symphony Orchestra during the 2010-11 season.
