Prof. Preston Named Fulbright Distinguished Chair
Professor Katherine K. Preston has been named the Walt Whitman Distinguished Chair of American Culture by the Fulbright Center of the Netherlands.
Preston, who is the David N. and Margaret C. Bottoms Professor of Music at the College, will be teaching classes in American Popular Music (for undergraduates) and Music in American Film (for graduate students) through the American Studies Department at the University of Leiden during Spring Semester 2009.
"I'm thrilled at this honor," Preston said. "European students are intensely interested in all aspects of American culture, and the history of American music is one of the strengths of our Department of Music. I am delighted at the chance to teach courses that we offer regularly here at William and Mary to students in the Netherlands. This should be a very interesting and educational experience both for me and for the European students."
