Undergraduate Program
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures teaches eight languages, exploring cultural expression across the globe. In addition to language, we examine the film, literature, material culture, and social practices that accompany these languages.
We attract a talented group of students to our programs, and graduate upwards of 70 majors per year. Even if you don't plan to major in a Language, fluency in a language can enhance most majors and open career paths that are closed to monoglots. If you have studied one of our languages before coming to W&M, we can place you in a class to continue your journey to fluency.
