VA German Day March 24, 2023
Every spring, Virginia's universities and colleges host local high school students in order to show them what German in higher education looks like, and to inspire them to continue their foreign language-learning journey after high school graduation. This year, the W&M German Studies Program welcomed Jamestown High School students (German Teacher: Frau Karis Seltzer) and Warhill High School students (German Teacher: Herr Bobby Brooks). In preparation for the day, both schools created a video on the topic of "Deutsch für die Zukunft: Frieden, Umwelt, Demokratie." There was a "Dance Like a German" competition, a campus tour led by German Studies majors, a Schnitzeljagd (scavenger hunt), and finally a pizza picnic on the field behind the German House. We hope to welcome the local high school German students again next year!
Many thanks to the W&M GS students Ben Schmitt, Liliana Schulz, Anna Garrett, Andy Gloudemans, and International Fellow Ulrich Rittmann.
