German Studies celebrated a particularly large class of majors and minors this spring, a class that entered before the pandemic but then was forced to shelve study abroad and other plans for a considerable time. The summer of 2022 reopened many of those opportunities, and several students in this class went to Berlin with our Summer Program or managed to squeeze in a semester abroad before graduation! This class was also especially active in teaching, and several in the cohort served in our Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Program for many semesters (Tristan Dunn, Nina Orozco, Ben Schmitt, Audrey Thronson, Hazel Hubbard). Their extra efforts paid off; 4 students have been awarded very competitive Fulbright Teaching Assistantships (Audrey Thronson to Germany; Nina Orozco, Ben Schmitt, and Hazel Hubbard to Austria). We celebrated our students at a garden party in Prof. Jennifer Taylor's house that included majors, minors, friends of the program and their extended families and loved ones. The next day, Modern Languages and Literatures awarded the diplomas at a ceremony in the Sadler Center.
