A busy fall semester
Life is good in our program! This Fall we were able to invite two guest speakers thanks to the generosity of our donors Nancy Bedford, Harold Meyers, and Terry Meyers. The first was Prof. Vinay Swamy (Vassar College) who gave a thought-provoking lecture on nongendered language practices and debates in the Francophone world (with one hundred people we filled 201 Washington Hall!). Later in October Prof. Sharon Larson (Christopher Newport University) inspired an equally vibrant Q&A session after her fascinating talk on Jane La Vaudère, a controversial woman writer of la Belle Epoque.
October was also our Undergraduate Research Month featuring numerous student presentations at a college-wide fair and at our annual Fête de la Recherche. Here are Morgan Cook-Sathers, Maeve Donahue, and Claire Selner speaking with a student about the projects they conducted in Montpellier this past summer, and Bella Milliman presenting her McCormack-Reboussin honors thesis on the representation of Breton women in the paintings of the Pont Aven art school.
