Rachel Varra (she, her, hers, ella), Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies and Linguistics, earned her Ph.D. in Linguistics in 2013 from the Graduate Center, CUNY. Professor Varra’s research interests include sociolinguistics, Spanish in the U.S., bilingual language processing, and Second Language Pedagogy. She comes to W&M from the University of Miami, where she was Director of the Spanish Language Program. She is the author of Lexical Borrowing and Deborrowing in Spanish in New York City (2018).
