Dr. Michael R. Deschenes Appointed Chair
The Department of Kinesiology & Health Sciences is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael R. Deschenes has recently taken over as chair of the department on July 1, 2011.
Dr. Deschenes has been a member of the department of Kinesiology at the College for 16 years and has risen through the ranks to full professor. As a member of the William & Mary faculty, Dr. Deschenes has served on numerous departmental and campus-wide committees including chairing the Protection of Human Subjects Committee from 2004-2010. In addition to his service to the college, Dr. Deschenes is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and serves as an associate editor of Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. During his tenure at William & Mary, Dr. Deschenes has maintained a highly productive and distinguished research record. Dr. Deschenes has received consistent funding from the National Institutes of Health and has over forty publications related primarily to activity-induced changes in the neuromuscular junction on which he has been recognized as an international expert. As such, Dr. Deschenes has received a number of prestigious awards including two distinct recognitions from his graduate school alma mater as Outstanding Alumni Researcher in 2002 and Outstanding Kinesiology Professional in 2003.
