Prof. Jackson named Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine

Professor Erica JacksonThe Department of Kinesiology is pleased to announce that Prof. Erica Jackson has been selected as a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. Selection for this special recognition signifies the quality of Prof. Jackson's research and service as well as her support by other ACSM Fellows.

Only one other faculty member at the College of William & Mary has received this recognition (Prof. Michael Deschenes). Prof. Jackson's research in exercise science and sports medicine has focused primarily on exercise and blood pressure in minority women and strategies to promote activity in underserved populations. The award also recognizes her contribution of distinguished service to the American College of Sports Medicine. Prof. Jackson has served the ACSM at the regional and national level. She is currently on the Executive Board of the Southeast Chapter of the ACSM and has served on the membership and bylaws committees. At the national level, Prof. Jackson was a co-chair of the minority health and research special interest group and is a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity Action. Prof. Jackson will join other Fellows of the American College of Sports Medicine in providing continued leadership to promote the goals and long range activities of the college. In the future, Prof. Jackson will assume a greater responsibility of service to the college and will stay involved at the regional level. The regional chapter is a great way for students to get involved in ACSM and network. Prof. Jackson has worked closely with events that the SEACSM hosts for undergraduate students. Feel free to contact her if you want information about the graduate/professional school fair, college bowl (Jeopardy style event) or student research awards. She attends the meeting annually and is glad to talk with students about attending the meeting or getting involved.
