Amy Quark

Background

Amy Quark is a Professor of Sociology and faculty affiliate in the International Relations Program at William & Mary. She is the author of an award-winning book, Global Rivalries: Standards Wars and the Transnational Cotton Trade (University of Chicago). Her research on global inequality and contemporary trade rules has also been published in top academic journals, including Social Problems, Politics & Society, Sociology of Development, and Review of International Political Economy. Her current work brings her focus on the legacies of colonialism to community-engaged research. She is the W&M lead for The Local Black Histories Project, a community-university research collaboration with the grassroots organization, The Village Initiative. Through the Local Black Histories Project, faculty and students collaborate with the descendant Black community to co-produce films, digital and physical exhibits, and scholarly articles interpreting Black histories of the greater Williamsburg area. Her areas of specialization include Socio-economic Change, Political Sociology/Political Economy, Globalization, Global Inequalities, Governance and Regulation, Agro-food Systems, and Local/Community Development.
