Karin Wulf moderates NYT "1619 Project" event
OI Executive Director Karin Wulf will moderate a panel of early American historians on Friday, March 6, at an event organized by the New York Times.
"Slavery and the American Revolution: A Historical Dialogue" will continue some of the vigorous discussion surrounding "The 1619 Project." The project is a series created and orchestrated by NYT staff writer Nikole Hannah-Jones that debuted in August 2019 and that combined essays in the New York Times Magazine (including an introduction by Ms. Hannah-Jones), a special broadsheet section of the NYT, and a podcast series to examine the legacy of slavery in America.
Friday's event, which will take place at TheTimesCenter in New York City at 6:30, is sold out. (Join the waitlist.) Panelists include OI authors (and former OI Council and Board members) Annette Gordon-Reed, Eliga Gould, and Alan Taylor. Gerald Horne will participate as well.
