Bio
Spencer received his B.A. at Brigham Young University in American Studies, as well as a masters at the College of William and Mary in history. He is currently working on a dissertation entitled: "Conscience and Communion: Excommunicates and the Right of Private Judgment in the Early American Republic, 1750-1830."
He has recently published in the Journal of Mormon History on Latter-day Saint views of Muslims in the late 19th century, and is interested in questions of ecclesiastical discipline in U.S. history more generally. He also is a volunteer Research Assistant for the National Museum of American History in Washington DC.
