Charles Allen (Chase) Wallace is a Ph.D. Candidate and the 2012-2013 George Washington Fellow of the General Society of Colonial Wars in the Lyon Gardiner Tyler Department of History, College of William & Mary; and will be in residence 2013-2014 as a Barra Dissertation Fellow and Research Associate at the University of Pennsylvania's McNeil Center for Early American Studies. He is currently writing his dissertation, "In the Chieftains' Shadows: the Deep South Confronts its Ancient Indian Past, 1790 - 1865," a history of the ways southern whites used ancient southern history to help justify the removal of Native Americans and build a slaveholding society, what became the Confederate States of America.
