Revised Leave of Absence and Withdrawal Process

At its September 20, 2024 meeting, the Committee on Graduate Studies (COGS) approved a petition concerning revisions to the Medical Leave of Absence (LOA)/Withdrawal process. These changes are effective immediately and will be reflected in the 2025-2026 graduate catalog.

The following is a summary of the changes. You may also review the full text of the approved petition.

  1. An A&S graduate student who wishes to take a leave of absence or withdraw from their program for any reason (medical or non-medical), will need to submit the [revised] Leave of Absence Form or the [revised] Student Withdrawal from Program Form.
  2. The process will be handled between the student's graduate program and the Office of Graduate Studies. There is no need for a visit to any office in Student Affairs for assistance with this process for A&S graduate students.
  3. Students who plan to return from a leave of absence will need to submit the new Reactivation Form to have their record reactivated for their return. Students who plan to return from a withdrawal will need to reapply to the program through the normal online admissions application process.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the Office of Graduate Studies.
