2023 Graduate Faculty Mentoring Award
Together with the Graduate Student Association, the Office of Graduate Studies is pleased to recognize the 2023 winner of the Graduate Faculty Mentoring Award. This award is intended to recognize faculty who serve as exemplary mentors to graduate students in Arts & Sciences. Alexandra Joosse, Senior Lecturer of Public Policy, was chosen for this honor based on more than a dozen enthusiastic letters of nomination from graduate students.
Award Citation for Professor Alexandra Joosse
Dr. Joosse is an outstanding member of the Public Policy faculty, providing extraordinary mentorship to master’s students in Public Policy.
Dr. Joosse’s graduate students describe her as deeply caring and empathetic, always demonstrating an active interest in both their academic and career success. They credit her level-headed advice as essential to their own advancement and success, and express gratitude for the many opportunities she provides them, ensuring they gain skills needed for future careers. She models responsible and engaged civic participation and encourages students to pursue careers that will broadly improve government and political processes.
Dr. Joosse’s approach to supporting graduate students extends beyond the bounds of the classroom. She routinely connects her students to relevant workshops, field trips, and meaningful interactions with practitioners at the state and national levels. She is well regarded for her commitment to helping students develop additional applicable skills, including memo writing, collaborative teamwork, grant writing, and networking, all of which are critical to their success as emerging professionals.
