Sean Koebley, Applied Science, is featured in the Daily Press for his silkworm study

Silkworms

Graduate student Sean Koebley's work was featured recently in the Daily Press. Koebley has been working  with Applied Science professor Hannes Schniepp to understand why synthetic silk lacks the impressive strength of its natural counterpart.  Natural silk is tougher than steel by weight, but current techniques for processing it weaken the fiber. If Schniepp and Koebley are successful, there are many applications that can use the super-strong silk.
