Professor Marcus Holmes, an Associate Professor of Government, will be the new Director of the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Program beginning July 2020. Working with St Andrews staff and W&M representatives, Prof Holmes will ensure the program continues to successfully give students a unique international experience.

Prof Holmes is experienced in advising and working with students. He has taught at William & Mary since Fall 2014. He is co-director of the Social Science Research Methods Center (SSRMC) and directs the Political Psychology and International Relations (PPIR) lab, both of which foster research skills in undergraduate students. His research interests are in international security, foreign policy, and diplomacy. Through his work, Prof Holmes has been published in numerous International Relations and Political Science Journals. In 2018, his monograph Face-to-Face Diplomacy won Best Book on Diplomacy from the Diplomatic Studies Section of the International Studies Association.

The Joint Degree Programme is truly unique. Students who participate will spend two years at William & Mary and two years studying at St Andrews in Scotland, benefitting from the best each institution has to offer. They then graduate with a degree jointly awarded from both institutions. Students can select one of six majors: Economics, English, History, Classical Studies, Film Studies, and International Relations. Prof Holmes is currently an advisor to International Relations students in the program and will now take on a more involved role in the program as a whole.

We are all excited to see what Prof Holmes will accomplish in this new role.
