Summer Wrap-Up and Mr. Graham Goes to Williamsburg
This past summer was a busy time in Morton Hall. More than a dozen students spent portions or all of the summer months working with faculty on collaborative research.
In August, Ben Bowyer and Naomi Levy left us for jobs at Santa Clara University and will be missed. Clay Clemens' canine friends were regularly in the building.
And on July 24, former Senator Bob Graham of Florida visited the government department and met with interested faculty and students over lunch to talk about Congress, American politics and the policy challenges confronting the nation.
Graham, a moderate Democrat, served as governor of Florida from 1981 to 1987 and he represented his state in the U.S. Senate from 1987 until his 2005 retirement. While in the Senate, among other accomplishments, Graham chaired the Select Committee on Intelligence.
During his lunch visit to the government department, Graham spoke with faculty and students about his new book, American Government: An Owners Manual, which is a practical guide to how ordinary citizens can influence the political process.
