Background
Professor Galeana Rodriguez holds a joint faculty appointment in Sociology and the Institute for Integrative Conservation. His research examines struggles over land and natural resource management in contested development and conservation processes, using interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research methods. For over a decade, he has worked in the Indigenous region of Mosquitia in Honduras, tracing the socio-spatial transformation of land governance from a historical and ethnographic perspective.
Since joining W&M, Professor Rodriguez has expanded his research to include applied conservation projects in Mexico and Kenya. Collaborating closely with students and local communities, his work in these regions addresses critical issues such as citizen science and benefit-sharing in carbon finance initiatives. His work appears in Geoforum, One Earth, Capitalism Nature Socialism, Journal of Development Studies, and Journal of Latin American Geography.
