2015 Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence
Citation for Rowan Lockwood
In her fourteen years at William and Mary, Professor Lockwood has brought her gifts for teaching to thousands of students. At the introductory level she has taught Earth's Environmental Systems and the freshman seminar Extinction. Her upper-level courses include the popular Age of Dinosaurs, Paleontology, and an array of seminars. She has also twice led the department's Regional Field Geology course in the Bahamas. Her evaluations from students in her classes illustrate that her teaching consistently is thoughtful, enthusiastic, and well received. Her teaching has been recognized at the national level as one of Princeton Review's Best 300 Professors, in 2012. The College has also recognized her with the Thomas Jefferson Teaching Award, in 2009, and the Alumni Association Award for Teaching Excellence, in 2007. It is fitting that she now be recognized with the Arts and Sciences 2015 Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence.
