2012 Faculty Governance Awards
Citation for Rowan Lockwood
During her ten years at the College of William and Mary, Rowan Lockwood has dedicated herself to service. Her longstanding work as a faculty advisor and with Academic Advising has helped bring the standard of student advising to a higher level across the College. Her outstanding service was recognized in 2005 when she was chosen William & Mary’s Advisor of the Year. In the Geology Department she regularly takes on senior research students and advises students generally on both professional and personal matters.
As an active member of the College's Committee on Sustainability (COS), Professor Rowan was instrumental in bringing together administrators and students with a strong sense of purpose to put sustainable practices into action College-wide. Her enthusiastic work with COS took on a big job that spanned the breadth of the College. From Dining Services to Facilties, she helped orchestrate many disparate elements of the College to work together toward a common goal. She has worked with the Charles Center on the Rhodes/Marshall/Mitchell Scholar Nomination Committee and given presentations and field trips for the Admission Office, the Center for Gifted Education, and other units on campus. She also served on the search committee for the College's current Provost and is presently co-chair of the Women’s Network.
