Give Something Back
Focus on alumni donor Dennis Liberson
Beginning in 2005, '78 William and Mary Alum Dennis Liberson
began giving to the Environmental Science programs at his alma mater.
What a difference he has made. Dennis, who was a executive vice
president of human resources and corporate real estate at Capital One
Financial Corporation, became an avid underwater photographer who has
traveled the world's oceans. Doing so, he realized the importance of
attention to environmental issues, and that we needed both good science
and intelligent advocacy. His funding has been crucial to the recent
growth and energy of the program.
Last year, ENSP/Government professor Maria Ivanova led a small group of students in studying how universities around the country were responding to the sustainability challenge. Sophomore Caroline Cress was a leader in that research, and in work to encourage William and Mary's administration to take on the "President's Climate Commitment" and to pass "green fees" on campus. In the summer of 2008, Liberson's support is allowing a group of five students to organize and move forward the dozens of proposals on Campus Sustainability generated in the spring seminar series. Liberson's generosity is supporting independent studies, collaborative research, teaching and real action at the College: good science and intelligent advocacy.
