2024 W&M Student Literary Awards Information
Welcome to the 2024 William & Mary Student Literary Awards! Every year, the faculty of the Creative Writing program looks forward to reading your creative work and marveling at the range and breadth of writing that occurs at William & Mary. The student literary awards are open to any current W&M student, regardless of major, with no previous coursework in creative writing required.
ELIGIBILITY:
The student literary awards are open to any current W&M student, regardless of major, with no previous coursework in creative writing required.
DEADLINE:
Submissions are due no later than 11:59pm, Thursday, February 29th.
CATEGORIES & GUIDELINES:
We have five genre categories: single poem, group of poems (3-6 poems), fiction (18 pages or less), nonfiction (18 pages or less), and drama/screenwriting (30 pages or less—so may be only a portion of script). Submissions should have a title and your name on it (no anonymous submissions), and should follow the basic formatting expectations for the genre in question. So double-spaced text for fiction/nonfiction, for instance, or basic script formatting for a screenplay. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will not be considered.
Finalists will be ranked by outside judges unaffiliated with W&M. Winners of the first ($200), second ($100), and third ($50) prizes for each genre will read from their work at the prize ceremony in late April.
SUBMITTING YOUR WORK:
Save your file as a PDF before submitting. To submit your work, click the link associated with your genre submission. It will prompt you to email the submission directly to a Box folder. Just attach your PDF and type out the proper subject line (explained below) before you send.

Basic Awards Details
- The Student Literary Awards are open to all W&M undergraduate students.
- Submissions should have a title and your name on it (no anonymous submissions), and should follow the basic formatting expectations for the genre in question. So double-spaced text for fiction/nonfiction, for instance, or basic script formatting for a screenplay.
- If you need to withdraw a submission, there's no need to give a reason. Please email your withdrawal request to [[jpineda]].
Finalists & Awards Details
Finalists will be notified via email. Please note: We will be unable to notify every awards entrant of their status at that time. Just the finalists.
Winners will be announced during a live awards ceremony in late April.
