Areas of Specialization
Academic writing; creative writing, in particular poetry, creative nonfiction, fantasy writing, and children's literature; twentieth-century British authors, especially those associated with the Inklings; museum studies; folklore and oral literature; detective fiction; the history of the book; literature with mathematical themes; EAP (English for Academic Purposes); cross-cultural studies; internationalization in the academic community.
She has taught a number of courses in the Graduate ESL Program and has participated in or led summer study abroad programs in Cambridge, Adelaide, and Prague. Alexander has had Fulbright Scholar grants in Belgium, Finland, and Latvia, and encourages students to apply for Fulbrights. She also served in Brazil for a year as an English Language Fellow.
