Williamsburg City Poet Laureate Program
Williamsburg, VA – The City of Williamsburg is currently accepting applications for its Poet Laureate program. This position aims to celebrate and promote the city's rich cultural heritage through the art of poetry.
The selected Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term, beginning July 1, 2025. They will receive a $1,500 annual stipend and have the opportunity to engage with the community through public readings, workshops, and other creative projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement: Participate in public readings, events, and educational programs.
- Creative Projects: Develop and implement a community-based poetry project.
- Advocacy: Promote poetry and literary arts within the city.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Residency in the greater Williamsburg area
- Age 18 or older
- A strong body of poetic work
- A commitment to community engagement
Application Process:
Interested poets can apply online by December 8, 2024. The application process includes submitting a portfolio of work, a community project proposal, and a letter of recommendation.
