Resources for New Faculty

New Faculty Information

Welcome to the English Department!  We know how stressful it can be to start at a new place and we've provided some resources below that would come in handy to ensure an easy transition into the W&M community.

Getting to Know the Campus and Settling into Williamsburg

Please visit the Faculty Affairs resource page as they have provided lists of great resources for locating housing, childcare, in-town resources, etc.

New Faculty First Steps and FYI's
  • Human Resources Tips for New Faculty
  • Benefit and Leave Information
  • myW&M.  You're hired!  Once you've signed a contract, you will be entered into the W&M system (please see Shanay Butler if you have questions about this process). Once you have a user ID and password, you can access the myW&M portal which is your access point for email, Banner (where you get your class rosters and turn in grades), Path, and Blackboard (where you post course materials).
  • Faculty Tribe Card (Campus ID).  Your Tribe Card is the official form of identification for students, faculty and staff and an essential part of your life here on campus. A Tribe Card is your (literal) key to campus. From door access to W&M Express and more, your Tribe Card will open doors for you at William & Mary.  As a new employee, Tribe Cards are issued once your identity has been verified through Human Resources.

  • Parking Options. Parking and Transportation Services is located in the Campus Center, Suite 109 at 104 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185.  Their operating hours are from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.  W&M has several parking options: annual parking passes, passport pay-to-park areas, 2 hour parking near campus, or a small portion of free parking.
  • Computers.  For Tenured/Tenure-Eligible Faculty, and non-visiting Teaching Faculty (formerly NTEs), in general, the A&S Dean’s Office provides a standard leased Dell desktop or laptop or up to $1350 towards the purchase of an Apple (cost must include AppleCare) or other non-standard computer. The Dean’s Office does not provide computers for part-time or temporary employees, or adjuncts, visiting, or research-active emeriti faculty. These computers can be provided by the department if funding is available. Computers used by adjuncts, visiting or research-active emeriti (AVE) can be leased through Request IT.
