Mark Shriver ’71 Establishes an Endowment to Benefit Economics Majors
The Department of Economics gratefully acknowledges the establishment of the endowment to provide need-based support for majors. The terms of the endowment of $100,000 are as follows:
Mark O. Shriver IV Economics
Scholarship Endowment
The income paid from this endowment shall be used to provide need-based scholarship support for undergraduate students at William & Mary, with a preference for Economics majors.
Mark majored in Economics at William & Mary and went on to earn his MBA and JD from Emory University. He recently retired from 37 years of law practice and was honored by the State Bar of Georgia with the Justice Robert Benham Award for Outstanding Community Service. Mark has been married for 45 years to Patricia S. McKay, M.D., with three adult children and one grandson.
Mark’s dedication to his alma mater is exemplary. Among other things, he has been a leader in the Atlanta Alumni Chapter, a co-chair of his 35, 40, and 45 reunion class-gift committees, and a member of the Annual Giving Board. As he puts it, “My Economics major and William & Mary degree have provided the foundation for the success I have had professionally and personally. I am honored to share my good fortune with William & Mary and future students. As the Optimist Creed says: ‘Be just enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.’”
