Inclusive Excellence
The Economics Department at William & Mary is dedicated to cultivating a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion that enriches both our department and the broader field of economics. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment for students from all backgrounds. Our initiatives include employing inclusive teaching methodologies, creating supportive learning environments, and integrating courses that critically explore issues of inequality.
We emphasize inclusive practices not only in our teaching but also in our research and service activities, ensuring that our entire academic community can thrive and contribute meaningfully. Through these sustained efforts, we aim to build a department that reflects the varied perspectives of society and equips our students with the understanding and skills to navigate and influence a diverse world.
We aspire to implement best practices highlighted by the American Economic Association (AEA) and Diversifying Economic Quality (Div.E.Q.). A standing committee meets periodically to evaluate climate surveys and make recommendations on diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department. The committee implements initiatives to promote an inclusive environment, expand our co-curricular activities, and suggest informational/curricular interventions to foster greater diversity in the major.
