Full Description
This semester, the Future of Arts & Sciences Committee has been collecting information relevant to the five charges from Dean Raitt.
We began by gathering information about 30 other universities (WM’s peer institutions as defined by SCHEV as well as other public universities in Virginia) and have formed five subcommittees to delve more deeply into several important issues, including Governance, administration of Graduate Schools, Interdisciplinary Programs, Mission Statements, and Experiences with Restructuring.
To gather feedback from the W&M community, the committee met in March with the Graduate and Undergraduate Student Assemblies and will be meeting with CCPD on April 4 and the Staff Assembly on April 10. The committee will also host two listening sessions for faculty and staff, the first on Wednesday, April 17 and the second Thursday, April 18, from 12:00-2:00pm in the Sadler Center Commonwealth Auditorium. The information collected about other universities and the feedback received from students, faculty and staff will be summarized in a preliminary report, which the committee intends to complete by the end of May. This research will also inform a survey that will be circulated to faculty, staff, and students at WM in the early Fall. Given the complexity of tasks assigned to the committee, Dean Raitt and members of the committee are in agreement to extend the committee's work into the fall semester. A final report will be submitted to Dean Raitt by late December.
