Prof. Kidwell Honored with Flygare Award from ISMS
William & Mary chemistry professor Nathan Kidwell has been honored for his remarkable work in molecular spectroscopy as a 2024 recipient of the Flygare Award by the International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy (ISMS). The award is presented biannually to a career independent scientist who has made significant contributions to the field of spectroscopy within five to ten years of receiving their Ph.D. Professor Kidwell will receive the award and deliver a lecture during a plenary session at the 77th ISMS symposium in June.
After receiving his Ph.D. in physical chemistry and molecular spectroscopy at Purdue University, Professor Kidwell worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He joined the Department of Chemistry at W&M in 2016 as an Assistant Professor and he became an Associate Professor with tenure in 2023.
The Kidwell Laser Lab utilizes laser-based techniques to address problems at the nexus of physical chemistry, atmospheric chemistry, and energy science. Specifically, he studies the photochemistry and bimolecular reactivity of molecules and uses laser spectroscopy to characterize reactions and determine detailed mechanisms.
Tribe chemistry commends Professor Kidwell for his significant research contributions and advancements in chemistry. Congratulations to Professor Kidwell on this well-deserved recognition!
