Alongside the April symposium, we are offering five sections of a one-credit undergraduate course, beginning in late March. Students will study Chauncey's book on marriage, Bernstein's edited volume regarding the same-sex marriage debate within the lgbt movement, and other readings and attend the full symposium.
About the Boswell Initiative
From the unique issues faced in retirement to the creation of new family formations, the Boswell Initiative aims to promote innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship on the cultural, economic, political, and policy dimensions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender life in the United States and in other countries. This initiative complements and enlarges the existing John Boswell Memorial Lecture, delivered annually during the College's Homecoming weekend.
In 2013-14, the Boswell Initiative is guided by a faculty advisory committee:
- Chelsey Johnson, Professor of English
- Kathrin Levitan, Professor of History
- Tom Linneman, Professor of Sociology
- Jennifer Putzi, Professor of English and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies
Funding for the 2014 Boswell Initiative is provided by the A&S Dean's Office and members and supporters of W&M GALA.
