BAM! (Birding And…Medicine!?!)
This Spring course builds on the writings of numerous birdwatcher-physicians who have noted that the same skills used in diagnosing illness are necessary for identifying birds. By honing these skills with campus birds, discussing their experiences with local physicians, and reading on the topic, students may become better physicians someday, but for now, they will definitely have interesting things to say in their medical school essays and interviews. Requires morning field experiences as well as classroom discussion of physician’s writing and is limited in size to ~ 10 students to facilitate the field experience.
