Beloved Biology Staff Member Jessica Shelton Remembered for Vibrancy and Dedication
The William & Mary community is mourning the loss of Jessica Shelton, a cherished staff member in the Biology Department, who passed away on May 9, 2024. Shelton's impact on the department was immense, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Shelton's journey at William & Mary began in the role of Administrative Coordinator in Biology. Her dedication, enthusiasm, and joie de vivre quickly shone through, leading to her promotion to Fiscal and Graduate Coordinator. However, these titles only scratch the surface of Shelton's many contributions to the community.
A creative force behind the scenes, Shelton was the mastermind behind the department's "swag." Her designs for stickers, color-changing cups, and t-shirts brought a touch of fun and personality to the Biology Department. Her creativity extended to decorating the halls of the Integrated Science Center to celebrate graduating seniors, making their achievement feel all the more special.
But Shelton's impact went far beyond her creative pursuits. She was a compassionate and supportive figure, always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. As one graduate student aptly put it, "Jessica was a compassionate, supportive, and genuine human as well as an ally of W&M biology students and faculty."
Shelton's love for her job and the community she served was evident in everything she did. Her vibrancy, dedication, and joie de vivre touched the lives of everyone around her. Though she may be gone, her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched and the lasting impact she made on the William & Mary Biology Department.
