The M.A. in Biology
The major emphasis of our program is an M.S. degree; only under special circumstances, and with the consent of the graduate committee, may students change from the M.S. to the M.A. degree program . Very rarely are students admitted to the M.A. track program. Contact the Graduate Director with questions.
M.A. students can be awarded assistantships, and will be eligible for 4 consecutive semesters of support as long as they remain in good standing. They are not eligible for summer support.
Requirements of the M.A. include 32 credit hours of graduate courses and the successful completion of a Qualifying Examination. M.A. students may seek permission from the Graduate Committee to take a limited number of courses in other departments, up to a maximum of 12 semester hours.
Instead of a thesis committee, non-thesis students choose a faculty member as an adviser with whom they can consult on a regular basis.
See the Graduate Catalog and the Graduate Handbook for details.
