Background
Isabelle Taylor earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry and Chemical Biology from the University of California, San Francisco, after which she carried out post-doctoral research in Molecular Biology at Princeton University. Prof. Taylor’s research areas of interest include chemical biology, biochemistry, and antimicrobial drug discovery targeting the mechanisms of bacterial cell-to-cell communication, called quorum sensing. She teaches biochemistry and organic chemistry.
Research Areas
Research in the Taylor Lab is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in quorum sensing, the bacterial cell-to-cell communication process, in the human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. I am particularly interested in the action of an enzyme called PqsE that is essential for quorum sensing and pathogenic traits in P. aeruginosa. Through a combination of chemical and biological techniques, we aim to further understand the roles of PqsE in directing pathogenic behaviors, as well as discover effective quorum sensing inhibitors that could be developed into therapeutic agents.
