Associate Professor Jennifer Kahn was awarded the Robert & Sara Boyd Associate Professorship Term award for 2020-2023. The Term Distinguished Associate Professorships are presented to “recognize and reward excellence in research or creative activity and a demonstrated commitment to teaching.” Professor Kahn, an Associate Professor of Anthropology, joined the William & Mary faculty in 2012. She specializes in the archaeology of chiefdom societies of Polynesia, using multi-scalar analyses to investigate the ways in which Central Eastern Polynesian societies diverged through time to become chiefdoms of varying social and political complexity. Her current field projects examine ideology and its role in emerging social complexity in the Society Islands and the Austral Islands, in addition to exploring the hinterlands of the Hawaiian archipelago.
