VASA Application
The Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) application is an option available to students who are ineligible to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who are eligible to receive federal Title IV funds should always complete the FAFSA application. To be eligible to file the FAFSA, you need to be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
Who Should Complete the VASA Application?
The VASA Application is available to Virginia students who are nonimmigrant, undocumented, have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status or are otherwise ineligible to file the FAFSA and want to be considered for state financial aid. Students must meet in-state residency requirements as set forth by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).
Do I Need to Provide Other Documents to W&M When Completing the VASA Application?
First-time applicants will need to complete the CSS Profile through the College Board. William & Mary's school code is 5115. Continuing W&M students will only need to complete the VASA application.
What Aid Am I Eligible for With VASA?
A student who completes the VASA may be considered for and awarded the following aid.
- State need-based financial aid, including the Virginia Commonwealth Award and Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Programs (VGAP).
- Some public institution awards reserved for Virginia residents.
- W&M need-based financial aid grants.
