Summer Financial Aid
Summer financial aid eligibility is based on the FAFSA submitted for the prior academic year. Aid for summer is limited and may only include loan eligibility if no grant funds are available.
You are required to submit a Summer Financial Aid Application, available from late-February to mid-March, to indicate your interest in aid. Submit the application at least one month before classes start to allow for time to generate a financial aid offer. Early submission will give you time to adjust your plans or consider other options if there is not enough financial aid to make summer attendance financially viable.
Please note the last day to file the FAFSA is June 30. If you do not have the prior year’s FAFSA on file, you must file it before July 1 for summer aid consideration. If you miss this window, we can assist you with accessing a private student loan.

Types of Summer Aid
W&M Need-Based Grants
Grant availability is not guaranteed during the summer and is limited to smaller amounts than available during the fall and spring semesters.
Federal Pell Grants
If you are eligible for an additional summer Pell Grant, it will be included in your financial aid notification.
Federal Student Loans
If you have not used your full-year eligibility for student loans during the fall and spring semesters, those loans can be used during the summer.
Federal Parent PLUS Loans
If all other aid options are exhausted and you still need funds to cover the cost of attendance for summer, W&M will include a Parent PLUS Loan in the aid package. This is intended to let you know the remainder of the cost not covered and the maximum amount of summer loan for which you can apply.
Private Student/Parent Loan
If a parent does not want to take advantage of the PLUS loan program or prefers a private loan, you can seek this type of aid from the lender of your choice.
