Global Studies
William & Mary Global Studies offers the B.A. in International Studies, with major and minor concentrations in the following programs:
- Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
- Asian & Pacific Islander American Studies
- European Studies
- Latin American Studies
- Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies
Global Studies also collaborates with Africana Studies, where African Studies is housed.
The diverse faculty of these programs offer expertise and excellence in teaching and researching the arts, cultures, histories, languages, literatures, politics, and religions of these global communities, and the movement of people in the world resulting from migration, resettlement, conquest, and conflict.
Our students are deeply curious and committed to learning about the experiences of global communities from the personal to the communal and the political, and the ways in which global forces are realized in and through local contexts, and the interconnections between global regions. In addition to taking courses exposing them to the lives of people in diverse international locations, they are dedicated to learning the languages of their chosen world regions in preparation for study abroad or international internships.
The B.A. in International Studies major and minor concentrations are geared towards students with an interest in the daily lives of people who live in these international locations, and the art, music, theatre, films, food, fashion, and livelihoods they create, the traditions and beliefs they practice, the challenges they may face in their societies, and their role and context in the global family of nations.
Our alumni pursue graduate work in masters and doctoral programs as well as professional degrees in law, education, medicine; or pursue careers in diplomacy, development, education, government service, international NGOs, and DC based non-profits like the Human Rights Campaign, Asian American LEAD, and various research think-tanks.
