Eligibility 

Incoming freshmen and transfer students are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS Profile for consideration of all the need-based financial aid resources.

How to Apply for Financial Aid

Application guidance for prospective, current and graduate students, as well as information about financial assistance for alternative programs and semesters, such as study abroad and summer enrollment. 

Academic Progress 

Federal guidelines require that students receiving federal financial aid make satisfactory progress toward their degrees. In general, satisfactory progress regulations mirror William & Mary's continuance standards.

Federal Aid: Work Student

FFederal Work-Study (FWS) is a need-based program awarded as part of your financial aid package. Priority is given to FWS recipients in filling posted on-campus positions.

Federal and State Grants 

William & Mary administers many forms of financial aid, including Federal and State Grants, including Pell Grants and Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants on the federal level, and Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program and Virginia Commonwealth Award on the state level.
W&M Scholarships Information about merit scholarships, as well as the many departmental scholarships available to students.
Outside Scholarships Guidance on how to report outside financial support and calculate the impact of outside scholarships on overall financial need.
Award Terms and Conditions All the basic information about the terms and conditions for receiving federal, state and institutional financial aid.
Veteran Benefits The Registrar's Office assists students with the processing of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) forms for educational benefits, provide guidance about specific procedural requirements, and submit enrollment certifications for each semester to VA.
Study Abroad If you currently receive financial aid (grants, scholarships, and loans), some or all of it can be applied to your study abroad provided you are enrolled full-time.

SNAP Federal Benefits

Effective as of June 10, 2023, sstudents must be actively participating in a state or federally financed work-study program during the regular school year to be eligible for supplemental nutritional assistance.
