Student Insurance FAQs

  1. I can't find or don't have my insurance ID card, what should I do?

The UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR) General Insurance FAQs also provides answers to some common student insurance or insurance 101 type questions.

1. I lost my insurance ID card, what should I do?

Two things. First, login to MyAccount, your UHCSR self-service portal or create your online account now if you haven't already done so and print a PDF copy of your ID card to carry with you in the meantime. Second, while you are still logged in to your UHCSR portal, request a Permanent ID card be mailed to you. There is no cost for a replacement ID card. Confirm your U.S. mailing address is up-to-date because the insurance company will mail the Insurance ID card to whatever address is currently on file in your insurance profile. You can also call UHCSR Customer Service at (800) 767-0700 (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, CST, Monday - Friday) to request an Permanent ID card. You should receive your Insurance ID card within 7-10 business days.

2. I am graduating in December/January, when will my Student Insurance coverage end?

As a full-time student for the Fall term who was enrolled in and billed for the Fall coverage period with an expiration date of 12/31 regardless of when classes end or when your degree is conferred, you are eligible to enroll in the Continuation coverage. You may continue your coverage for a period of not more than 180 days/6 months under the policy in effect when your student coverage expires and you are no longer a full-time student (since you graduated). To access and submit your Continuation Enrollment form, login to UHCSR MyAccount, navigate to My Coverage in the blue ribbon and use the Enroll in Continuation link at the top of the page to complete your enrollment. Your Continuation Enrollment form and premium payment must be submitted directly to UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR) and must be received within 31 days after the expiration date of your student coverage or no later than January 31. Please note that since you graduated, you are not eligible to use the Student Health Center services, but you may continue to use the SHC Pharmacy services.

3. I am graduating in May, when will my Student Insurance coverage end?

As a full-time student for the Spring term who was enrolled in and billed for the Spring/Summer coverage period with an expiration date of 7/31 regardless of when classes end or when your degree is conferred, you are eligible to enroll in the Continuation coverage. You may continue your coverage for a period of not more than 180 days/6 months under the new policy in effect when your student coverage expires and you are no longer a full-time student (since you graduated). To access and submit your Continuation Enrollment form, login to UHCSR MyAccount, navigate to My Coverage in the blue ribbon and use the Enroll in Continuation link at the top of the page to complete your enrollment. Your Continuation Enrollment form and premium payment must be submitted directly to UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR) and must be received within 31 days after the expiration date of your student coverage or no later than August 31. Please note that since you graduated, you are not eligible to use the Student Health Center services but you may continue to use the SHC Pharmacy services.

4. If I'm on the Student Insurance Plan and I am no longer eligible to use the services of the Student Health Center, how do I obtain medical care?

You may choose to see any health care provider with this plan, however to receive the highest levels of coverage, we encourage you to use a preferred provider under the UHC Choice Plus PPO network. If you plan to remain in the Williamsburg area long term, you may want to establish a new patient/doctor relationship with either a general or family practitioner in the area.  But, if you do not plan to remain in the area long term, you should probably utilize a local urgent care center for medical care until you permanently relocate. Williamsburg Urgent Care, Sentara New Town Urgent Care and Riverside M.D. Express Williamsburg all participate with UHC Options PPO. If you are receiving or plan to receive medical care within 10 miles of the university campus, you must notified UHCSR that you are not eligible to use the W&M Student Health Center (SHC) to avoid have claims denied for no SHC Referral. To document the change in your student status, submit a copy of your unofficial transcript to the UnitedHealthcare StudentResources office using the address on back of insurance card or by email customerservice@uhcsr.com.
