Housing
On-campus housing is available for enrolled undergraduate and graduate students (family housing is not available on campus). Students living on-campus will move in during their check-in appointment with Residence Life during the designated move-in days. Students planning to arrive before the designated move-in days should arrange their own early housing, such as a hotel.
There are also many off-campus housing resources and opportunities to explore. Some students arrange housing before arriving, while others make short-term housing arrangements first and then look for rentals after arriving. Review the resources below for more information, including the Off-Campus Housing Student Panel.
New International Students & Scholars
If you are a new undergraduate international student and you would like to move into your residence hall early, please register for the Undergraduate International First-Year Arrival Program. Registration will open in early May 2026!
Selecting Travel Dates: You may enter the U.S. up to 30 calendar days before the program start date on your I-20 or DS-2019. On the I-20, you can also see the “Earliest Admission Date”. Students who recently attended another U.S. school and have transferred their immigration record to W&M are not bound to this rule.
New International Student Orientation:
- All new international students in F-1 or J-1 status (including exchange and transfer students) are required to attend an International Student Orientation Session
- New undergraduate international students (including exchange students) are also required to join New Student Orientation.
- New graduate international students also have orientations with their programs and should check these dates with their academic program to determine when they should be on campus.
- Please also refer to the academic calendar and residence hall schedules (if you are living on-campus) before booking a flight. Exams cannot be scheduled around flights and on-campus housing closes shortly after the exam period.
