Office of the Chief Data Officer
The Office of the Chief Data Officer is led by W&M's inaugural CDO, Barbara Forth.
Institutional Research & Business Intelligence
Led by the CDO, the W&M Data Team is responsible for both internal and external institutional data reporting and analysis, the deployment of analytics, data governance, and data management infrastructure to generate insights to be used to improve organizational decision-making and excellence. The Office of CDO oversees two teams: Institutional Research (IR) and Business Intelligence (BI)."
The IR team turns data into information and delivers expert data analysis to inform university decision-makings and planning at all levels and in areas such as admissions, enrollment management, staffing, financial aid, student life, finance, facilities, athletics, and alumni relations. The team collects, analyzes, disseminates, and interprets report data and information. They incorporate applied research methods to analyze data to provide insightful information for decision making, including appropriate interpretation of analysis results with contexts. They provide data oversight and partner with campus offices to ensure the right data used to make informed business decisions.
The BI team is responsible for the Qlik analytics platform and works with Qlik App owners to create reusable applications that support business operational decision making. The team builds data pipelines to expand the scope and breadth of available data.
The IR and BI teams compliment one another and work collaboratively to enable data access and governance to W&M organizations. They work as data leaders on campus data initiatives with campus data stewards to reach consensus on data processing, database structure and data definitions. Both teams have a representative present during virtual data office hours, available every Wednesday on Zoom.
