Growing up in rural South Carolina, Arie Van Dam '26 developed a deep passion for the outdoors, spending much of his free time exploring the forests and streams near his home. As he grew older, he became acutely aware of the realities of environmental degradation and climate change. However, these challenges only strengthened his resolve to protect the natural world.
At William & Mary, Arie has sought out courses that focus on innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to conservation, equipping him with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle today’s environmental crises. He is excited to apply these insights to his current and future research through the IIC, with the goal of contributing to sustainable solutions for the planet's protection.
