Message regarding Dec. 8 shootings at Virginia Tech
The following message was sent to the W&M Campus Community from Anna Martin, Vice President for Administration and Chair of the Emergency Management Team.
Dear William & Mary community,
You likely have heard by now that our friends at Virginia Tech are dealing with another tragedy on their campus. Authorities say a Tech police officer and one other person were shot and killed today following a traffic stop. The College's Emergency Management Team has been monitoring developments throughout the day.
I am writing you because the higher education system in Virginia is a family. Many of us have deep connections to Blacksburg. We have family members and friends who currently attend the university or work there as faculty or staff. Many of you are alumni of Virginia Tech. Events such as these are tragic at any time and on so many levels, but it is particularly heart-rending to think that the Virginia Tech community must experience such a tragedy again. Please keep them in your thoughts.
Anna B. Martin
Chair, Emergency Management Team
Vice President for Administration
