Faculty Services
The WCC helps faculty in the following ways:
Individual Support for Your Students:
We support your teaching goals by helping your students improve their writing and communication skills. In one-on-one consultations, our trained peer consultants provide individual support for any writing or communication assignment: academic essays, lab reports, presentations, storyboards, personal statements, creative writing, scripts, applications, digital communication, and more. Our consultants are W&M students who come from a variety of disciplines and can help their peers at any stage of the writing or communication process—from idea, to draft, to revision. Writers from all disciplines and skill levels are welcome to make an appointment for a 50-minute session. Online appointments are available to any student unable to attend in person.
While each session is focused on a particular assignment, the broader goal is to teach students skills they can use in all their writing and communication tasks. Read What to Expect to learn more.
Class Visits and Tours:
We can visit your class at any time during the semester to introduce ourselves and our services. Or, you might instead choose to bring your class to the WCC for a tour. In either case, a Writing and Communication Center consultant will present a brief overview and answer questions. These class visits or tours last about 15 minutes. To schedule, please submit a request.
In-Class Workshops:
WCC consultants are available to facilitate 50-minute workshops in your class. For more details about available workshop topics, and to submit a request, see our workshops page.
Course and Assignment Support:
We are available to assist faculty with integrating writing into courses across disciplines and to support special writing projects. For a conversation about your course goals and ideas, contact Lori Jacobson [[ljacobson]].
