Marshall Scholarships
Postgraduate degree at a UK institute in any field
Grade Level:
Seniors & recent grads
2024 Campus Deadline:
August 4
Summary
Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to fifty Scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at a UK institution in any field of study.
The Marshall Scholars program looks for candidates who have the potential to excel as scholars, as leaders and as contributors to improved UK-US understanding. Selection will be based on academic merit, leadership potential and ambassadorial potential. Be sure to read the Marshall eligibility requirements before applying and note that applicants must have a GPA of 3.7 at the time of their application.
Note: Students who complete the William & Mary Joint Degree Program (JDP) with the University of St. Andrews are not eligible for a Marshall scholarship. This is because participants in the JDP program have technically studied for a degree in the UK, which Marshall prohibits.
Campus Nomination Process
Overview: The complete application is due by the campus deadline of August 4 and must be submitted online through the Marshall application website. Letters of recommendation must be uploaded separately to W&M's campus Marshall Box folder by this deadline so that our campus review committee can take these into consideration in their review of applications.
Candidates with strong applications will be invited to complete an interview with the campus committee. This interview, in tandem with your application, is how the campus committee will determine which applications to endorse.
Note: If your application is selected for campus endorsement, it is your responsibility to inform your letter writers that they will need to submit their letters to the Marshall portal by the national deadline. You will also be able to edit your application materials after your campus interview and before the national deadline.
Application Format: The application is completed on Marshall’s online application portal.
Note: Candidates may apply in one region only - either the region in which they have their permanent home address or ordinary place of residence/employment, or the in which they are studying. Please review the Application FAQs for information about the online application process.
Deadlines and Timeline:
- August 4 by 11:59 p.m. EST: Campus Application Deadline. All application materials need to be submitted in Marshall's online application portal. Letters of recommendation must also be uploaded by your letter writers to W&M's campus Marshall Box folder by this deadline.
- Early August through early September: Application review and campus interviews take place.
- Mid-September though late September: Campus nominees will have a short window to edit applications after the campus interviews and before submitting their applications by Marshall's national deadline.
