Walter J. Zable Graduate Fellowship

These competitive fellowships are offered to outstanding applicants to William & Mary’s MA/PhD, MS/PhD, and PhD programs in American Studies, Anthropology, Applied Science, Computer Science, History, and Physics. Zable Fellows receive $5,000 per year for their first two years of graduate study, plus $500 per year in research expenses during that same period. (Beginning with the incoming Fall 25 cohort, the award will increase to $5,300 per year for the first two years of graduate study, along with the $500 per year in research expenses during the same period). These funds are in addition to the standard financial package offered with admission.

Zable Fellowships are funded from the generous bequest of Walt Zable ’37.

Process

The doctoral programs in A&S will submit their nominations to the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies for review and approval. Nominations highlight the applicant’s qualifications, including strengths in the proposed field of graduate study. Nominees are evaluated on the basis of their qualifications; possession of a master’s degree is not a specific criterion.
