Background

David Finifter has been on the faculty at William & Mary since 1973. He completed his M.A. Ph.D. (1974) in economics from the University of Pittsburgh and also holds a B.S. degree from Loyola College of Maryland. David was the founding director of the Thomas Jefferson Program in Public policy, a position held until 2001. From 2002 to 2005 he was the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. His teaching interests include labor economics, program evaluation and benefit-cost analysis, and microeconomics applied to public policy analysis. David's research interests include issues relating to labor and human resources and public policy, including evaluation of federally subsidized employment and training programs, the economics of aging. Also, evaluation of the federally funded Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) and technology policy. David has been awarded numerous research grants and contracts from government agencies and foundations and has worked with several government agencies in a consulting capacity including the U.S. Department of Labor, the National Academy of Sciences, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, NASA, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and the Virginia Department of Education.
