On Tuesday, March 18, Joe Goodkin dazzled a packed crowd with 16 songs that tell the story of Homer’s Iliad. The performance featured Goodkin, on vocals and guitar, playing pieces focused on various parts of the epic from the perspectives of multiple characters, including Achilles, Agamemnon, Briseis, Hecuba, and Priam. In between songs, Goodkin illuminated important aspects of the story for the audience. During the Q&A after the performance, Goodkin explained his creative process and the aspects of Homer’s poetry that inspire him. Goodkin was a Classics major at the University of Wisconsin and took 9 semesters of Greek. He has performed his music based on the Iliad and the Odyssey across the country and around the world.
